Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Pull a Huge 'Pearl' Milia Out of a Patient's Inner Ear
In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper pops a large “pearl” milia out of a patient’s inner ear.
Dr. Lee uses the video to educate about the difference between a whitehead and a milia, which can sometimes appear quite similar.
Milia are bumps containing keratin that has been trapped underneath the skin, and are sometimes called “baby acne” or “Epstein pearls."
In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—pops a “pearl” milia out of a patient’s inner ear. And this hidden gem is absolutely gigantic for a usually-tiny milia.
In the clip, Dr. Lee nicks the bump inside the patient’s ear and uses a comedone extractor to coax out the pearl hidden inside. The growth pops out in one piece, looking like a “tooth” or a “kernel of popcorn,” according to some viewers. Dr. Lee, however, writes that the bump looks like a pearl in her caption of the video.
Dr. Lee used this particular video to educate about the difference between a whitehead and a milia, which can sometimes appear quite similar.
“A whitehead is a clogged pore, while a milia occurs in an area where keratin has been trapped underneath the skin,” she explains in the caption of the post. She also mentions milia are harmless, only having to be removed for cosmetic reasons or mild irritation.
Milia actually nicknamed “baby acne” or “Epstein pearls” in some cases, which falls in line with Dr. Lee’s comparison.
