Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Remove a 'Shower Cap' Cyst Full of 'Mashed Potatoes'
In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper removes a large goopy, oozing cyst from a patient’s shoulder.
According to Dr. Lee, the cyst looks like a "shower cap" filled with "mashed potatoes."
The cyst is likely an epidermoid cyst, which is often filled with an overgrowth of dead skin cells and keratin.
This is certainly a pop to write home about. In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—removes a large goopy, oozing cyst from a patient’s shoulder. But what makes this one notable—aside from the sheer satisfaction of the pop—is how Dr. Lee describes its appearance.
In the clip, Dr. Lee squeezes the cyst's contents out of a small incision, pushing out a stream of creamy white gunk.
"It's like mashed potatoes!" Dr. Lee exclaims. But that's not the end of the creative comparisons.
Once the cyst is emptied, Dr. Lee cuts out the cyst's sac wall, which is thin and translucent in appearance. Removing a cyst’s sac wall greatly decreases the chance a cyst will return, which is the ultimate goal.
In the caption of the video, Dr. Lee calls the growth a "shower cap cyst." When one fan asked why the growth was a "shower cap," Dr. Lee explained that she thought the growth's sac wall looked like a little shower cap.
So what we have here, according to Dr. Lee, is a shower cap filled with...mashed potatoes. Interesting, to say the least.
The cyst featured in this video is likely an epidermoid cyst, which is often filled with an overgrowth of dead skin cells and keratin. The growth can occur on the face, neck and back, and the contents are often white in appearance.
