Five years after Fast and Furious star Paul Walker died in a car accident, a new documentary on the Paramount Network is taking a heartfelt look at his life and legacy. It’s the first time his family has spoken out about Paul’s life, and what it was like to lose him so early.

I Am Paul Walker features interviews with his siblings, Caleb, Cody, and Ashlie, childhood friends, directors he had worked with, and costars like Tyrese Gibson.

The documentary discusses Walker’s tendency to be “one foot in, one foot out” of Hollywood, preferring to focus on his family and spend time outdoors. “My daughter, my surfing - that’s the life and that’s what I care about,” The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen says Walker would tell him.

The film, which counts Walker's brother Caleb as an executive producer, also talks about his quiet work as a philanthropist, helping in the effort to rebuild Haiti after its devastating earthquake and establishing a disaster relief organization, Reach Out Worldwide.

Walker was killed in a car accident in 2013, after a Porsche he was riding in lost control and burst into flames. The Fast and the Furious franchise let his character, Brian O’Conner, ride off into the sunset, choosing to live a quiet life with his wife and child. “If you loved him the way we did, you would say, well, why him and not us?” Gibson says. Cue the waterworks.

I Am Paul Walker premieres August 11 at 9 p.m. Eastern on the Paramount Network.
