Watch: Gold Coast Surfer Rides Waves With Pet Snake

The surfing animal craze began with dogs (we think).

We've also seen surfing pigs, cats, goats, and even a surfing rat.

Now, there's a snake in the lineup in Australia, and it's not a surfer stealing waves.

Instead, a snake in the lineup is being redefined by a surfing snake named Shiva.

She's a bredli python who surfs regularly with her human, Higor Fiuza.

9 News Australia posted the video above yesterday, captioning it:

"A Gold Coast surfer takes his pet snake Shiva out to catch waves."

The video shows the tandem team surfing at Rainbow Bay on the Gold Coast.

"She's goes for a swim a little bit and then comes back to the board," Fiuza says. "She's just cruising waiting for the wave, for the perfect wave."

According to the news channel, the duo is a "regular fixture" in lineup during the summer.

"How do you know she enjoys it?" the reporter asks.

Fiuza says when Shiva's annoyed with something, she hisses. But she never hisses in the water, she just goes along for the ride.

According to Repti Files, bredli pythons are non-venomous, endemic to Australia, and make good pets.

Since the story broke, things have taken a turn for Fiuza and Shiva.

Fiuza's now under investigation for "wildlife offences," according to 7News.

Tim Hudson, from Hudson Snake Catching Gold Coast and Hinterland, told the news sight he's "concerned for the snake’s welfare.”

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has launched an investigation.

A department spokesperson told 7News:

“Wildlife officers are making inquiries into the matter to determine if any legislative provisions under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 or permit conditions under the Nature Conservation (Animals) Regulation 2020 have been breached.”
