Watch: Jackson Bunch Sends It Into the Wind on Maui
With an incessant sideshore wind flow, it's no surprise Maui molds surfing's best aerialists.
Matt Meola and Albee Layer were the first to really embrace Maui's trades, using is as glue as they flip and spin into the wind. From Layer's double alley-oop to Meola's OG frontside 540, Maui's been ground zero for a few "never been done" moves. Their surfing has also inspired the next generation from Maui to push themselves above the lip.
See: Jackson Bunch.
While Bunch is more comp focused than Layer and Meola, and is currently trying to work through the Challenger Series to eventually qualify for the CT, he's still got serious game above the lip. Click play above to watch him collect combos, hammer sections and — most importantly — spin full-rotations into the flats, all in very average waves.
We're sure Layer and Meola are proud.
