Watch: Jamie O’Brien Surfs 13-Second Barrels in Tahiti

As a rule, when taking surf trips, one must ask: Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Meaning, is the time spent traveling and away from a job or family, the money spent on flights and accommodations, the endurance of sleeping on a boat or in a tent or beneath a mosquito net…is it all worth the waves that you might, potentially score?

For Jamie O’Brien’s latest surf trip, the answer was a resounding “yes.”

In his latest vlog, JOB heads to an off-the-grid wave in Tahiti or, in his words, “we’re on a mission to score some of the best waves on this earth.”

And score they did.

It’s a perfect, uncrowded, wavepool-esque barreling lefthander.

The boys get kegged off their skulls during a marathon day-long session. The tube time accumulated in one day is likely more than most people have in a year…or a lifetime. And by the end of it, Jamie called it “one of my best surf sessions in years.”

“Are you kidding me?” Jamie continued. “The score fest of all time. We came so far for this moment, and for everything to come together on the first day, like, so seamlessly straight into some perfect waves. And it continued to keep getting better and better.

“I was like…’that was the best wave of my trip! No, that was the best one! That was!’ Every single wave was getting better and better. That was probably one of the best surf sessions I’ve ever had in my life.

“I think I might’ve put a 13-second barrel up today. Between me and Lucas [Godfrey] our barrel time was way up in the five-minute [range]. We’re just clocking the barrel time hardcore.”

Juice, squeezed. Worth it. Absolutely.
