Jason Aldean’s 2013 No. 1 hit “When She Says Baby” centers on a dreamy, knee-buckling love, with flirty guitar scales and upbeat drums throughout. On Sunday, October 1st, the feel-good anthem quickly spiraled into mass chaos as Stephen Paddock rained gunfire down on a crowd of 22,000 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.

One week later, headliner Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany have returned to the scene that left at least 58 dead and more than 500 people injured to show their support.

“Feels surreal being back in Vegas today. Visiting some of the strongest people we have ever met... fighting the toughest battle of them all... for their lives,” Brittany Aldean captioned an instagram photo showing the couple looking towards the Mandalay Bay hotel. “You have helped us try to begin the healing process by seeing the strength each one of you have. Thank you for today. We will never forget.”

While in town, Jason Aldean took time to visit fans in the hospital recovering from the horrific shooting.

The previous evening, Aldean was a surprise guest on Saturday Night Live, where he performed Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.”

The country star opened the show with an emotional monologue: “I’m Jason Aldean. This week we witnessed one of the worst tragedies in American history. Like everyone I'm struggling to understand what happened that night, and how to pick up the pieces and start to heal," Aldean said. "So many people are hurting. There are children, parents, brothers, sisters, friends—they’re all part of our family. So I want to say to them: We hurt for you, and we hurt with you.”
