Watch Kate Upton Set a New PR With an Impressive Set of Dumbbell Squat to Presses
Supermodel and actress Kate Upton has been keeping busy during the pandemic by seriously upping the ante in her workouts, nailing a series of weight room moves that range from the beginner-friendly, like the landmine reverse lunge, to more complicated, like the single-leg Romanian deadlift. She has also been setting personal records in exercises like the hip thrust as she's continued to improve on both her strength and technique in her training sessions.
Most recently, Upton set a new PR in her dumbbell squat to press, also known as the dumbbell thruster, a core-training exercise that complements other multi-joint moves. Upton can be seen smashing out an intense set of 25-pound thrusters in a new Instagram video shared by her trainer, Ben Bruno.
"Yesterday @kateupton crushed 3 sets of 10 dumbbell squat-to-press with 25 pound dumbbells for a new personal record," he wrote in the caption. "Strong! 25 pound dumbbells is no joke for this exercise. Kate has made big improvements on both her upper body strength and her squat technique in the past six months, which is great to see. She's super consistent and always brings her best effort, which is the recipe for success."
Before attempting the dumbbell thruster yourself, it's important to make sure you're aware of the correct form. That means keeping your elbows parallel to the ground or higher throughout every stage of the move to take some of that strain off your shoulders, ensuring you're squatting to the proper depth at the lower end in order to get maximum benefit from the exercise, and not letting your torso tip forward.
