WATCH: This One Trick Can Make Your Hair Look So Much Better in Photos

Welcome to the future. In 2018, for those of us not hanging with Alexa, getting ready can be as easy as, "Ok Google, how do I do a fishtail braid?" "Hey Google, do you think that I look fab?" (of course!) and the perfunctory "Hey Google, take a selfie!" These days, your smartphone can take one heck of a selfie, and capturing an amazing shot has a lot to do with your hair.

"There’s an old adage that hair frames your face, and that’s also true for selfies and photos," says Ellese Launer, a social media beauty and fashion influencer. The secret to your best hair in photos? "Know your part! Finding where to part your hair is the first step in seamlessly stunning hair each time," Launer explains. "It may be straight down the middle for a city chic look, or pulling all of your hair to one side for a glamourous, old Hollywood-look" Before you take a selfie or important picture, perfect your part in the mirror so it's just right. It may sound simple, but even if you're having a bad hair day, are battling crazy humidity, or haven't washed your hair in a few days, switching up your part can instantly make you look more polished and really make your features stand out.

Launer, who takes her selfies on the Google Pixel 2, also swears by portrait mode to make your tresses shine (literally and otherwise): "The Pixel 2 uses computer vision and AI to get a precise focus on not just your face but also your hair, so you won’t see as much blur at the edges or your mane as you might with other phones. Bonus: Portrait mode works with both the front and rear camera for selfies and you can add instant retouch with a tap of an icon found in the top left corner."

If you don't have the new Pixel or phone with similar functionality, consider trying different camera angles. Even just slightly rotating your hand can transform a bad hair day into Lemon Breeland-worthy locks. "Try shooting from above or from the side," advises Launer. Once you find "your best angle" make a note for next time the world needs to see your other-worldly blowout.
