Watch Rob Gronkowski and Venus Williams Use Their Trophies as Weights
The era of social distancing has seen a number of star athletes pivoting to the role of online personal trainer, using platforms like YouTube and Instagram to stream live workout sessions for their followers.
Pro tennis player Venus Williams has been recruiting her friends in sport and entertainment to take part in her new weekly Coach Venus fitness series on Instagram Live. Previous co-hosts have included supermodel Naomi Campbell, comedian Amy Schumer, and a couple of famous faces from the world of tennis, including her sister, Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, and World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov, who showed off his shredded abs during their workout.
The latest athlete to join Williams for a 'Flex Friday' workout on Instagram was football legend, Masked Singer contestant, and unexpected WrestleMania star, Rob Gronkowski. Gronk recently announced he was coming out of his retirement from the NFL and joining his former Patriots teammate Tom Brady at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — his workout on Instagram with Williams was his first big public appearance since the news broke.
Now, one of the obstacles that a lot of people are coming up against right now when devising their home workouts is a lack of access to the right equipment, such as weights and medicine balls. Gronk and Williams don't have that kind of issue. Sure, they have fancy home gyms that are undoubtedly stacked with everything they need, but why use regular weights when you can lift using your trophies instead?
The two athletes worked out using their respective U.S. Open and Super Bowl trophies, and shared the stories behind their wins while they did so. That is, as the kids might say, a flex.
Then Williams got Gronk to perform some tennis drills with her, which he attacked with gusto. Who knows, after his successes in football, wrestling, and singing, maybe he'll set his sights on pro tennis next.
