Watch Soli Bailey Thread an XXL Cloudbreak Screamer
When the stars align, Cloudbreak is the biggest and most beautiful left tube in the world. Taller than Chopes and longer than Pipe, no other wave is quite like Cloudbreak when it unloads deep on the second reef.
Yesterday, that's exactly what happened.
"I’ve seen so many of these crazy swells over the years," Soli Bailey says, while speaking to Surfline.
Most notably, Bailey is referring to this swell from 2011, when Nathan Fletcher, Bruce Irons and Ryan Hipwood all wrangled historic Cloudbreak tubes. While yesterday's swell wasn't quite as big, it still had its moments. Like the absolute bomb Bailey rode above.
Alongside the clip above, Surfline continues:
"Soli Bailey is sitting in the channel at Cloudbreak, remembering something he saw on the screen as a grom — the vision of Bruce Irons on a big orange board, driving into massive Cloudbreak on the day of the year. That was in 2011, and the ride Soli watched back then was shot by Surfline’s founder and guiding light, Sean Collins. Soli’s since made himself into one of the world’s finest surfers, and yesterday he found himself in the spot for one of those astonishing bluebird rides - a long eight or ten seconds of triple plus overhead tropical hollowness, through which he held a line to the finish. “Still shaking, man,” he told SL’s ace correspondent Chris Peel, holding on to Peely’s ski. Watch above to see just why."
