The Paris 2024 Olympics are right around the corner, and surfing, for the second time ever, will be amongst the events featured on the docket. It will undoubtedly be a momentous affair in the annals of surf history, as over 100 years ago, Duke Kahanamoku pushed for the sport to be included in the Games. And now, Duke’s dream has come true.

Accordingly, surf fans (preexisting and newcomers to the sport) will not want to miss this. So, how does one catch the action? Below, we’ve got you covered on all the information you need to know to watch surfing during the Paris 2024 Olympics.

How to Watch the Olympics

Olympic broadcasting rights are held by NBC. So, viewers can watch surfers go for gold at Teahupo’o via all their streaming – and traditional TV – platforms. Those include:

  • Peacock ($8/month): Peacock is probably the best option here. On top of being budget-friendly, you'll be able to toggle between events, as some will be happening simultaneously. It's $7.99/month for the Premium plan and $13.99/month for Premium Plus (ad-free).

  • NBC TV (on regular, old-fashioned TV)

  • NBCOlympics.com and NBC.com

  • NBC app (for mobile viewing)

  • NBC Sports App (also, mobile viewing)

There are a few other workarounds that will get you NBC coverage without going directly to the source, such as:

As for international viewing, according to the Olympics, Media Rights Holders (MRHs) include "Nine in Australia, Globo in Brazil, CBC in Canada, CCTV in People's Republic of China, Fuji TV/NHK/Nippon TV/TBS/TV Asahi/TV Tokyo in Japan, SKY NZ in New Zealand, SuperSport in South Africa, NBC in the United States, and Discovery Eurosport across Europe, alongside France Télévisions in France, ARD/ZDF in Germany, and BBC Sport in the United Kingdom, among others."

Additionally, the SURFER team will be on the ground at Teahupo’o during the Paris 2024 Olympics, so follow along live on Instagram and on the site.

Are the Olympics free to watch?

In this day and age? You crazy? Everything costs something. But there are definitely some backdoor streaming options out there, aside from the ones listed above. If you're savvy with the internet and all its pirating capabilities, you probably already know this.

Otherwise, your local pub, bar, or surf shop might be a good option to consider.

Where will surfing in the Olympics take place?

Instead of Paris, the host city for the 2024 Summer Games, surfing will take place at Teahupo’o, Tahiti. At nearly 10,000 miles away, this will reportedly be the furthest a medal-crowning event has ever taken place from the host city in history.

What are the dates for Olympic surfing?

The competition window spans from July 27th – August 5th. During that timeframe, the event will run in the best conditions on offer, just like a WSL event. It will take four days total to complete the event for both the men and the women.

When will Olympic surfing be streaming live in your time zone?

Tahiti time is 10 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). So, to make that a little more comprehendible, here's how that looks for a few different viewing zones:

  • PST: 3 hours behind

  • EST: 6 hours behind

  • AEST: 20 hours ahead

  • CET: 12 hours ahead
