Watch This Swan Aggressively Fix a Woman’s Face Mask in Hilarious Viral Video
Six months into the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve all seen (or been) that person: the one who doesn’t wear their face mask correctly. Whether they’re pulling the classic chin-strap or leaving their nose uncovered, they’re all too common and always a little too close for comfort.
And one swan has had enough.
In a viral video posted to Twitter on September 10, a rogue swan took matters into its own hands (beak?) by reminding one unlucky passerby how to properly wear a face mask. When a woman knelt down to say hello, the bird, presumably fed up with seeing people disregard public health guidance, literally grabbed her mask from below her chin and snapped it over her mouth and nose.
The internet’s clear favorite is, of course, the bird. “The swan is following directions better than the humans,” one user commented below the video. Another: “Even the animals are fed up.”
The woman, meanwhile, is probably lucky that the swan let her get away with just a stern reminder about proper pandemic etiquette. Swans are famously aggressive fowl, often attacking people who get too close. As yet another commenter put it, “if you get that close to a swan, you deserve everything you get!”
As a reminder, face masks should cover both the mouth and nose whenever you can’t maintain a six-foot distance from others outside of your home, and especially when you’re indoors or in crowded areas.
Combined with thorough hand-washing, social distancing, and seeing a doctor about any new symptoms, wearing a mask helps keep the people around you safe, and is one small thing you can do to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.
That swan just has our best interest in mind, apparently.
