What happens at the end of The Watcher?

Beware of spoilers beyond this point!

The Watcher season 1 ends with Karen Calhoun (Jennifer Coolidge) sabotaging the Brannocks' sale of the house. After driving down the price with bad publicity, she buys the Brannocks' home and spreading rumors to the press that the Brannocks (Bobby Cannavale as Dean and Naomi Watts as Nora) concocted Watcher letters to their former neighbors as a hoax. In reality, Dean did write one Watcher letter to convince Nora to move. Karen only lasts a single night in the house before listing it and selling it.

Meanwhile, on her deathbed, Theodora (Noma Dumezweni) claims to be The Watcher, saying she previously owned 657 Boulevard and was a true crime fan that took her hobby too far. However, Theodora—whose cancer is worsening—was lying just to give the Brannocks a sense of peace.

When the new owners of the home move in, it turns out, almost everyone in the neighbor is a Watcher (especially the preservation society) ... and Nora and Dean may have joined the ranks, too. When Dean tells the new owners his name is John, it can mean a number of things—including that the house has the ability to corrupt or possibly possess people into becoming serial killer John Graff, similar to the story of The Amityville Horror.
