Watching How Cookie Cutters Are Made Is Oddly Satisfying
If I had to guess, I'd say a pretty solid number of House Beautiful readers have used a cookie cutter in the last month. But have you ever stopped to think about how cookie cutters themselves are made?
I certainly had not-until another editor stumbled across the Twitter account @toolotheday. If it sounds like something your dad would be into...well, it is, but it's a good follow across the board anyway.
Reason number one: a recent post shows exactly how cookie cutters are formed, and it can only be described as mesmerizing. To sum it up, a circular piece of aluminum is placed around a solid shape (like a reindeer, gingerbread man, pineapple, etc.) and in between a bunch of levers. The levers punch in around the solid block, shaping the metal into a cookie cutter. I know very little about tools, so you should really watch for yourself.
It's fascinating, right!? The video had nearly 5 million views at the time this article was posted, so I know I'm not alone in this thought. Also, this guy captured what we're all thinking:
So, the next time you make some adorably shaped cookies, just remember all the levers and doo-dads that went into making your cookie cutter the perfect shape. And for more cookie recipes (you can never have too many), we've got you covered.
