Watching the mother of the bride, Doria Ragland, was undisputedly the best part of the royal wedding
Meghan Markle might have been the star of the royal wedding. However, people are also acknowledging the amazing grace of her mother and biggest supporter, Doria Ragland.
Since the pair’s arrival at the Cliveden House Hotel on Friday, Ragland has been by her daughter’s side for the many moments that led up to Saturday’s nuptials. And although she was seemingly unaccompanied, without other friends and family, the 61-year-old fit right in when it came to the royal proceedings — even looking like British royalty herself.
Exiting from the back seat of a Rolls-Royce when she arrived at St. George’s Chapel, the mother of the bride was seen in a custom dress and day coat by Oscar de la Renta. Ragland also had natural locs pulled back underneath her fascinator by Stephen Jones.
Oh are we talking about Doria? Doria Ragland? Style icon Doria Ragland, 61, social worker-turned-best-dressed woman in the United Kingdom with grace and class to spare? Or are we talking about a different Doria pic.twitter.com/eiyc8B6txJ

Beyond how beautiful Ragland looked, it was the strong single mothers and black culture that she represented, and how eloquently she did so, that stood out to people around the world. From graceful and poised, to straight-up historic, here are a few of the reactions Ragland received:
With all due respect to #HarryandMeghan, the best part of this #RoyalWedding, the most historic and the most symbolic, is the mother of the bride: Doria Ragland. pic.twitter.com/nl9NuUwLbq

The face of Doria Ragland – Meghan's mother – often overflowing with tears has been the most genuinely moving part of this whole #RoyalWedding. pic.twitter.com/QKCZcs4izU

Doria Ragland was my highlight. She handled an intimidating and lonely moment with such poise and grace. #RoyalWedding

I’m sorry but I am just in love with Doria Ragland – the love and pride in her eyes, her grace and cool under considerable pressure, her vulnerable and beautiful humanity standing out like a lighthouse in a sea of royalty, entitlement and privilege ?????? #RoyalWedding

How I admire Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mother. She’s there all alone – not another friend or child in sight – and has represented her daughter (and America, incidentally!) with 100% dignity and class. Lovely.

I think about what Meghan’s mom #DoriaRagland is experiencing. She’s my age exactly. From being born into Jim Crow era to Buckingham Palace WOW. Of all the stuff your kids can get you into bet she never saw this coming ?♀?
