New waterfront destination heading to Erie Basin Marina

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Angelo Canna Jr., who recently opened “The Juicery at The Hatch,” has now partnered with restaurateurs Mike Shatzel and Jason Davidson to fill the empty kitchens of The Hatch and former William K’s restaurant — the first step in creating a bigger waterfront destination for neighbors.

“This is too good of an opportunity to pass up and we’ve got great ideas,” said Davidson.

Canna holds the rights to the old Hatch restaurants’ footprint after he and the city agreed to a five-year contract in 2022. In a statement, he said this has been a favorite spot for Buffalonians looking to enjoy classic eats while watching sailboats and sunsets, and while he wants it to always be that place, he knows it can be more.

To help with that vision for the 80-seat restaurant, he partnered with Shatzel and Davidson, managing partners of the Liberty Hound and Terrace at Delaware Park, taking a fresh look at the whole facility.

“We want to do an aspect of a New England-style clam bar and beer garden on one side of the facility. On the back end there’s a bar that overlooks the lighthouse that would be more like a laid-back resort-type bar with some reggae music and cool vibes,” Davidson said.

The bigger space also allows for private events and local bands to showcase their talents.

“Ever since Rock the Harbor moved to the Outer Harbor people are coming in and saying they missed those concerts. We want to bring it back on a smaller scale, highlighting local bands,” Davidson said.

Davidson continued that the new place would give local chefs and restaurant staff another place to work in the Queen City. So what can neighbors expect from the menu?

“There’ll be different things for people to enjoy they can grab some clams, a nice lobster roll. You can get your onion rings and fried baloney and you can host a family party or a corporate fundraiser,” Davidson said.

A name for the new establishment is still in the works, but a grand opening has been scheduled for Memorial Day, May 27, of this year.
