Watermark Art Center to host August art classes, youth camps
Jul. 30—BEMIDJI — Registration is now open for August art camps and workshops at
Watermark Art Center.
A Mark Makers Fairytale Camp will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 5-9. Attendees will dive into the world of imagination with themes related to fairy tales, myths and fantasy stories during this camp for first- through third-graders.
During this three-day camp, participants will be inspired by classic stories as well as new tales sparked by their imagination. Campers will work in a variety of mediums including acrylic paint, printmaking, watercolors, clay and more.
The fee is $120 for a member child or $150 for a non-member child.
A World Travelers Camp will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 12-16. Participants in grades 4-7 will explore art from different cultures around the world in this camp.
Campers will learn more about art from various corners of the globe and express their visions by creating artwork inspired by their global journey, the release said. Attendees will draw, paint, sculpt, use clay, make prints, build and more.
The fee is $120 for a member child or $150 for a non-member child.
Digital illustration classes will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 19-21. Professional illustrator Nicholas Jackson will teach participants ages 15 and older digital illustration from scratch using the Procreate app.
Jackson will guide participants through his creative process step by step, from the initial concept to the final artwork. Attendees will learn how to use the tools and unique techniques of digital painting to bring their stories to life.
Students will need to bring an iPad or tablet, Apple Pencil or stylus and get the Procreate app.
The fee is $120 for members or $150 for non-members.
A "What's in Your Wunderkammer?" collage class taught by exhibiting artist Susanna Gaunt will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 23 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 24.
Gaunt will introduce techniques in collage and shaping paper to create two- and three-dimensional pieces.
Her work is inspired by observations of the natural world, natural history museums and their 17th-century precursors, the Wunderkammer; as private collections of art and rare specimens, these curiosity cabinets strove to reveal the wonders of the world, the release said.
This is a two-part class for ages 15 and older. The fee is $120.
