Wavegarden Reveals World’s Largest ‘Cove’ Wavepool with Filipe Toledo

Love ‘em or loathe ‘em, wavepools are currently reshaping the surf world.

And they likely will for the foreseeable future, too, with synthetic surf spots cropping up across the world, fostering an impending generation of new-age surfers who, like a dystopian film or novel, are raised riding waves in a tank versus in the ocean.

So, who’s going to jump on the bandwagon? And who’s going to fight in the resistance, rejecting the wavepool overlords’ dominance 'til their very last breath?

Welp, count Filipe Toledo out for the role of Skywalker.

The two-time World Surf League champion from Brazil has inked a deal with Wavegarden, a leader in the wavepool arms race in terms of mass-market consumption and innovation, for a signature surf tank experience. They’re calling it, Beyond the Club, and it’s coming to S?o Paulo, Brazil.

Per a press release, Toledo said:

“This is a visionary project, and I am proud to be a part of it. I never really imagined that technology would evolve to this level in my lifetime. But it has, and it is even being done in a sustainable way, which is great to know.”

“At its core, Beyond The Club will have a 62-module Wavegarden Cove – the world’s largest and most powerful – surrounded by a sandy beach and an extensive array of infrastructure catering to sports, recreation, social, and cultural activities,” reads the presser.

The future is now.

Pick a side.
