Ways to keep your utility bill down while temperatures soar
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — We are dealing with some hot temperatures this week in the Kansas City metro, which might leave you wanting to crank your air conditioning.
It’s easy to go straight to the thermostat when the heat gets like this week, but instead of turning it as low as possible, experts with Evergy say there might be a number that’s best for keeping the bill in check as well.

Evergy said that your thermostat being set at 78 degrees can help reduce your electricity bill compared to having ice-cold air blasting all day.
They also recommend checking your home for air leaks, by feeling around the edges of your doors and windows and checking for heat coming through. Check your AC’s air filters, since keeping them clean will keep your AC running well.
Evergy also recommends using smaller appliances to cook or to have cold food.
That number will be different for every family depending on your home and other factors, so you may have to play around with it, but of course, the most important thing is keeping your loved ones cool and comfortable this week.
