Here are some ways to save when back-to-school shopping
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Learning how to shop smart can offer some financial relief when back-to-school shopping.
Before you hit the stores, consumer savings expert Andrea Woroch told 8 News Now to try and shop at home first. Throw that old backpack in the washer and rip out papers in partially used notebooks.
Secondly, she said to think of secondhand savings.
“Check out Swoondle Society and Kidizen. They offer things at a fraction of retail prices, allow you to trade in your kid’s outgrown clothing,” Woroch said.
Woroch said you can save 70% when using secondhand websites.
Her third tip is to consider refurbished gadgets for electronics with certified retailers who offer a warranty and return policy.
For basic supplies, her fourth tip is to stick with store brands.
“Target’s Mondo lama markets are just $0.99, Crayola options are going to cost you $2.99, an instant savings right there,” she said.
The fifth suggestion is to stack coupons with cashback by using coupon aggregators. You can also team up for bulk discounts by talking to other parents about a Costco or Sam’s Club run for glue sticks and print paper.
Woroch said to try and split the cost and look for bundle deals. She said if you time your purchase, a lot of retailers offer bigger discounts mid-week, off your entire purchase.
Her eighth final tip: tap into savings apps to compare prices quickly. Savings apps compare local store circulars, so you know which nearby retailers have the best deals for everything on your list.
