We tried Lululemon's trending Scuba hoodie — three editors share their thoughts
The popular Lululemon Scuba hoodie is just about everywhere these days. Does it live up to the hype? Our shopping experts put it to the test.
Let's get real: Is there anything as exciting as finding the perfect sweatshirt? You know, one that's cozy, fits just right and can be worn for multiple occasions — whether you're running errands, heading to the gym or just lounging around. Lately, it feels like everywhere we look, we see someone wearing the viral Lululemon Scuba Oversized Funnel-Neck Half Zip. Not surprising: The trending hoodie is a TikTok favorite and has racked up nearly 3,000 five-star reviews.
The cult-fave comes in eight versatile colors and styles including black, gray, navy, beige and pink. It's known for its oversized fit, but it has a cropped length which keeps it from becoming too boxy. Fans of the hoodie typically throw it on over leggings or shorts depending on the weather. Other features include thumb holes, a kangaroo pocket with a hidden phone sleeve, a turtleneck-like collar and an elastic zipper pull that doubles as an emergency hair tie (so smart!).
Below, I asked three of my fellow shopping editors to try out the Lululemon Scuba Oversized Funnel-Neck Half Zip and share their honest impressions after giving it a whirl. Does it actually look good on everyone? How cozy is it really? Is it worth the price? Let's just say, you'll want to wear this hoodie 24/7 too by the time you finish reading.
The Scuba sweatshirt is meant to have an oversized, exaggerated fit — think of it like a cozy blanket that's stylish enough to wear. You can dress it up or down depending on your mood.

First impressions: "The style is great. It looks dressier than your average hoodie — the funnel neck and the cut have a relaxed look, without being sloppy."
How's the fit? "I tend to straddle between a size small and medium. I didn't know which to pick so I went with the medium. It's pretty boxy and oversized, but it has a cozy feel. I think, if I were to buy the sweatshirt again, I would give the small a go. I do like boxy and oversized, and this wears well in that respect, but I feel like I missed the boat a bit on how cute this could look with leggings with a bit of a crop to it."
When do you wear it? "It's been pretty hot where I am (Los Angeles), so I've worn it sparingly. It's been nice to pull on for chilly mornings when I walk the dog. I look forward to wearing it by our fire pit as the days get more chilly. The funnel neck and the quality of the knit make it look more pulled together, so I think this will be a go-to for work video meetings this fall and winter."
Would you recommend the hoodie? "If it's in your budget, yes. I've seen lookalikes on Amazon, but the quality of the knit is fantastic on this — the lookalikes can't compare. They also don't have the same cool features, like the finger loops and — my favorite part — the cell phone sleeve in the kangaroo pocket. My phone is always slipping out of my pockets, so I love this added touch."

First impressions: "Right out of the box, I loved the look and feel of the hoodie. The zipper is also sturdy, which is way more important than you'd think — I've worn too many sweatshirts with flimsy zips that get stuck or fall apart. I love the funnel neck design combined with the ability to zip down pretty deep — it gives this hoodie a fun edge and the opportunity to style it in different ways. I found the material to be comfortable and breathable but not itchy, which is exactly what you want from a hoodie."
How's the fit? "I found the actual fit on me to be a bit bulky, but it's entirely my fault. I ordered the largest size while underestimating just how oversized the actual fit of the hoodie is. If I go a size down, I know it will be a perfect fit so don't be me and try to size up because you think you'll get a roomier, cozier fit out of it."
When do you wear it? "This is a great piece to wear while running errands or just lounging around your place. I think it looks especially good when paired with leggings (or jeans) and white sneakers for a cute athleisure look."
Would you recommend the hoodie? "Yes, it's a touch expensive, but if you're looking for a nice staple to splurge on, I'd say go for it."
Jessica Dodell-Feder, Senior Editor, Home & Garden
First impressions: "The ribbed panels give it a more polished look than my other hoodies, so it makes me feel put-together — even if I haven't left the house all day!"
How's the fit? "It's definitely boxy and oversized, but I like that in a sweatshirt. I do think this runs large — I am typically a medium or large in tops and I got the M/L but felt like I could have gone down a size. It's also a bit cropped. It hits me right at my hips so I've been wearing it with high-waisted bottoms."
When do you wear it? "I brought the sweatshirt on a trip over the summer for too-chilly airplanes and ferries. It was perfect, soft enough to nap in with a high neck and thumbholes that made it extra cozy. Now that I'm back home I wear it post-workout with leggings and with shorts on cool evenings."
Would you recommend the hoodie? "I would, if you've got the budget and you're into the slouchy look. The half-zip funnel neckline is trendy, but the details make this sweatshirt look grown-up, so I don't feel like I'm wearing the same thing as the preteens I see shopping at Lululemon in the mall. Also! There is a hidden phone sleeve within the kangaroo pocket on this thing, which I love. If you've ever had your phone slip out of your hoodie pocket, you know how genius a feature like this is."
The popular sweatshirt comes in eight hues, including fun shades for summer — think beige, gray, pink and green. Some are even accented with a gold zipper! As with other viral Lululemon products, new colors often sell out, so if you see one you like, don't hesitate to buy it.
