What to wear for every kind of Bonfire Night you might be having
Whether your Bonfire Night plans involve a chic evening of dinner and drinks in the warm or hours spent reluctantly standing in a muddy field, make sure you do it in style.
If you're in need of outfit inspiration, look no further, we've got an ensemble for every type of celebration...
Dinner party
Velvet skirt, £35, Marks & Spencer; Bella Freud metallic jumper, £295, The Modist; Equipment pussybow blouse, £280, Net-a-Porter; Sterling silver hoops, £10, Accessorize
If you're not keen on getting your shoes muddy while watching fireworks in a field, we don't blame you. A night spent drinking mulled wine around the wood-burner sounds very appealing indeed and there are plenty of outfit options on offer. A great blouse layered under a patterned knit will see you through the evening in style. Simply pair this combo with a pair of wide legged trousers or a midi skirt and your favourite dinner party heels for a fail-safe Bonfire Night look.
Rooftop drinks
Les Reveries floral silk-chiffon dress, £570, Net-a-Porter; Shearling jacket, £1790, Ganni; Whistles suede lace up boots, £225, John Lewis & Partners; Chain earrings, £59, Swarovski; Long sleeve top, £16, Topshop
One of the best places to watch the evening's festivities is from a rooftop bar. It'll be chilly, but don't let that get in the way of dressing up. A floral midi dress is a low-maintenance option, perfect for layering over or under knitwear. Add your boots of choice, a dose of glamour in the way of some statement earrings and you're good to go. A proper coat isn't needed here, instead opt for a shearling jacket that'll look great when effortlessly draped over your shoulders.
Field fireworks
Teddy coat, £115, Warehouse; Shearling lined boots, £329, Penelope Chilvers; Cord trousers, £45, Weekday; Cashmere gloves, £35, John Lewis & Partners; Cotton blouse, £17.99, H&M; Fairisle sweater, £165, Toast
Watching from afar definitely has its perks but there's something to be said for the authentic experience of standing in a field with a proper bonfire and fireworks display. With this option, your outfit - and footwear especially - is key. Luckily, chunky soled hiking boots are big this season as are teddy bear coats, which means you're halfway to the perfect outfit. A super-soft scarf, hat and gloves are optional but definitely advised. As for what you wear underneath? Jeans or cords will never let you down and there are myriad knitwear options on offer so just take your pick.
Cosy night in
Harlequin silk satin long pyjama set, £395, Liberty London; Slippers with marabou pompom, £19.99, Oysho; Cable knit cardigan, £79.99, Zara
Okay, so what if you don't feel like standing outside for hours, but you're not feeling up to a boozy night out either? Enter my favourite option of all: the stay-in-and-watch-on-tv bonfire night. All the joy of the world's best fireworks displays via the news without any of the neck pain spent staring up at the sky for hours. But just because you're staying in doesn't mean you can't enjoy dressing down. Get yourself a pair of luxury PJs and slippers, raise your mug of hot chocolate and settle down for a blissful bonfire night from your very own sofa.
