By now you’ve heard the reports and read the news after the devastation around the country caused by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. If you’re at home this weekend and looking for a way to give back — and for a way to stay prepared — here are a few things you should know.
1. Airlines OfferFare Breaks for Florida Residents
JetBlue is doing its part to help Florida residents evacuate ahead of Hurricane Irma, offering direct flights for as low as $99 from every Florida city it operates in. The airline has also imposed a price cap through September 13, that would make all of JetBlue’s Florida connecting flights no more than $159. Flights in the eastern Caribbean and in the western Caribbean are also under a fare ceiling.
American Airlines, which has a major hub operating out of Miami, said it has capped the price of main cabin seats on single leg flights at $99. Delta, meantime, says it won’t charge more than $399 for tickets on all flights to and from southern Florida and the Caribbean. Get more details here.
2. #HoustonStrong Shirt to Benefit Those Affected by Harvey
In collaboration with the NFL, Fanatics.com and the Houston Texans organization, you can purchase this Houston Texans “Houston Strong” women’s v-neck t-shirt with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. For men, get a #TexasTough tee from Black Helmet Apparel here. Black Helmet says $7 from every shirt purchased will go to the Red Cross’ Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund.

3. Pack An Emergency Bag
It’s important for each household to be prepared for a natural disaster, whether it be a hurricane, earthquake or flood. Keeping an extra supply of water, flashlights, batteries and non-perishable food in your closet is essential–but what if you need to evacuate your home if an emergency strikes? Enter the bug-out bag or BOB for short. Here’s what you should be packing.
The Red Cross has a team of volunteers actively on the ground in Texas, Florida and other affected areas. For updates on what they are doing and to make a donation, visit their Disaster Relief page here. The website, Charity Navigator, also has a list of places where you can donate.
If you buy something because we told you about it, we may receive compensation from retail partners.
