You don’t need to know the difference between a three-card and a Celtic cross spread to get the most out of a tarot card reading. All you need: your Sun sign! Here’s what I do: Shuffle my tarot deck and pull out the cards in order from Aries to Pisces plus one general card for everyone so that you can get specific advice around your personality. Let’s go!

A GENERAL CARD FOR EVERYONE: FOUR OF SWORDS

IDK about you, but sometimes the whole New Year thing can feel like a bit of a letdown. There, I said it! The Four of Swords is a sick note from the Universe for all of you who agree with this. You don’t have to go out. You don’t have to have the biggest, most expensive, most exhilarating night of your life. You can stay home, cozy up, go to bed before midnight (yup!). Sometimes it’s nice to wake up on the first day of the New Year with a clear head, a clean apartment, a positive bank balance, and good intentions, starting 2020 as you mean to go on. Up to you, bb. Go hard or go home—it’s all good.

ARIES: FOUR OF CUPS

Appreciation is your number one theme this week, Aries. Looking at your life as though you were an ~outsider~ and noticing the advantages, benefits, positives, and strengths that are all right there under your nose. The Four of Cups urges you to show gratitude and acknowledgment of the gifts you’ve got. Make yourself feel good by recognizing what you already have, from day one of 2020.

TAURUS: TWO OF CUPS

You’re ruled by Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, which means…you get a lot of attention (think everyone’s love life is like this, huh? Nope!). The Two of Cups blesses your New Year with some sparkly romance, so expect to rekindle the flames of passion with boo, bump into the ex you have unfinished business with, or be swept off your feet by a sexy water sign as the clock strikes midnight—keep your eyes peeled for a Scorpio, Cancer, or Pisces.

GEMINI: EIGHT OF WANDS

You literally never stop talking, texting, messaging, gossiping, and communicating, Gemmy (you’re ruled by Mercury, duh!). The Eight of Wands ensures that your New Year is full to the brim of new news, well wishes, surprising texts, and invites. Just the way you like it, quite frankly. Go nurture your network and broaden your horizons, because who knows who you’ll need, meet, or help in the year ahead.

CANCER: SIX OF WANDS

The Six of Wands is the tarot’s victory card—a symbol of celebration and success. Raise a toast to your 2019 highlights this New Year, Cancer. Not only do you richly deserve the rewards and the chance to savor your progress, but it also signals to the Universe that you’d like more of the same, please, kthanksbye. Conduct a little appreciation ritual of your 2019 show reel! *drinks to that*

LEO: ACE OF CUPS

As the year turns over a new leaf, so too does your life. Something magical and huge is going to enter your world this month. It’s something that renews your passions and makes you realize how meh things had been until this new news arrives. It could be a new role, creative project, relationship, or lifestyle change. It’s inspiring, fulfilling, and rewarding. Forget the January blues, you’re going to be full of January joy!

VIRGO: THE WORLD

January is a window of opportunity to make some amaze plans for yourself in 2020, so get out your Post-its, calendar, and highlighter pens. Planning time! Let your thoughts turn to where you’d like to explore (and maybe even move to) in 2020. The World is a positive card about travel and movement and even hints that your destiny in the year ahead is shaped by where in the world you go or settle down. The world is smaller than you think and you can go farther than you currently believe.

LIBRA: SEVEN OF SWORDS

Libra, you’re the least aggro star sign—you run TF away from conflict or tension and you love to be loved. However, some people are not so wholesome and happy as you, bb. The Seven of Swords asks you to stop with the people pleasing or at least press pause on it. This urge to be friends with everyone can lead you into situationships with shady characters. If in doubt, don’t. If you’re not sure, play it safe. Sail through to 2020 without falling into any quicksand.

SCORPIO: THE DEVIL

So you get The Devil for the New Year. WTF have you been up to now, Scorpy? JK. It’s not necessarily a negative card, but it is a warning that there’s something you ought to try to give up, avoid, or stop this coming year. Resolutions about sacrifice or abstinence can be dull AF, I know, but see this change as being more about what you can gain rather than what you have to lose. Commit to a new you. Spot and stop a bad habit that trips you up time and again.

SAGITTARIUS: PAGE OF COINS

For all your hijinks and mess, you’re actually a real deep thinker, Sag. Go Einstein! This week, whether you do some studying, workshopping, or training, might be just the ticket to get you through the dark winter months ahead. The Page of Coins visits you with a prospectus of educational opportunities and urges you to take a look. Satisfy your intellectual curiosity.

CAPRICORN: THE LOVERS

When the New Year rolls around, the emphasis on reflection and planning brings into sharper focus the ~big things~ in our life (job, relationship, friends, money, health). We tend to ask ourselves: Is this really what or who I want to be? And the answer to that is for you alone to figure out. The Lovers sees you wondering if there are people or situations you don’t actually want to take into 2020. Now is the time to act on this insight. Be bold. Take positive action.

AQUARIUS: KING OF WANDS

You love a clean slate, a new day, a fresh chance. You are clever and imaginative, and you’re not fazed by a blank piece of paper. The King of Wands brings you the energy, innovative thinking, creativity, and inspo to draw up some thrilling and fulfilling plans for the year ahead. You’re going to go for it this year, and it starts right here. Go daydream!

PISCES: NINE OF COINS

Money is not exactly your strong suit. It comes and goes, it’s not something you really obsess over. 2020 sees you taking much more of an interest in your finances and discovering it’s not as dull as you thought. The Nine of Coins is a lesson that we have to design our life—we have to make plans and invest in them. You want more control. You want security. As 2020 rolls in, you start to seek advice, counsel, and services that can help you manage your money better than ever.
