The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) is speaking out after receiving zero Grammy Award nominations for the 2021 ceremony. The singer, whose 2020 LP After Hours was one of the biggest releases of the year, tweeted, "The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency..." He shared the same message on Instagram.

Tesfaye's absence from the nomination list came as a shock to fans after the singer had such a successful year. After Hours debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March and set a record for the "biggest week for any album" this year. His upbeat hit, "Blinding Lights," which went viral on TikTok, made history for scoring the most weeks in the chart's top five slots. He was also tapped as the 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show performer.

Just this Sunday, Tesfaye won three American Music Awards, including Favorite Male Artist - Soul/R&B, Favorite Album - Soul/R&B for After Hours, Favorite Song - Soul/R&B for "Heartless." He was nominated in eight categories.

While accepting the favorite artist trophy, he dedicated the win to his team and his fans. "Thank you, I love you. I appreciate it. I don't take any of this for granted," he said before leaving the stage.

Tesfaye has won three Grammy awards in the past: Best R&B Performance for "Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)" and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015, and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Starboy in 2017. Between 2013 and 2017, he has received 10 nominations total from the Recording Academy.
