How well do you know the British royal family line of succession?

With Queen Elizabeth II in the 66th year since her coronation as Britain’s monarch, the question of succession casts a bigger shadow now more than ever. With a bevy of instantly recognizable royal faces, you have to wonder: Who’s in line to inherit the throne? We’ve got the answers.

Next up: Prince Charles

Once Elizabeth gives up her crown, it will be passed down (diamonds and all) to her son Prince Charles. The current Prince of Wales is already 43 years older than his mother was when she was crowned. Divorced from icon Diana Spencer, Charles remarried in 2005. His wife, Camilla Parker Bowles (aka the Duchess of Cornwall), would technically be queen if Charles gets the title of king, but her official title would most likely be queen consort, since she was not born into the role.

No. 2: Prince William

Arguably the world’s favorite British royal (unless you’re a Harry fan, which we totally get too), William is set to inherit the throne after his father, Charles. William’s wife, Kate, would be granted the title of queen consort, the same as Camilla. Should Kate outlive her husband, she would assume the title of queen mother once the next royal takes the throne.

No. 3: Prince George

The fashion-forward face of the “new royals” is in line after his father, William. Melting hearts everywhere with his big smile (plus being the firstborn child of William and Kate doesn’t hurt…), this king-in-the-making is sure to be a popular one!

No. 4: Princess Charlotte

Prince George’s sister may be younger, but she’s ahead of many others to inherit the most powerful position in the royal fam. She shouldn’t get too excited about wearing that crown, though — her position as fourth in line will get bumped should Prince George have children.

No. 5: Prince Louis

The youngest of Kate and William’s children, Prince Louis is currently fifth in line for the throne. Much as with his sister, Charlotte, his position in the queue will get bumped significantly should his older siblings have kids, though if you ask me, being a prince isn’t such a bad consolation prize.

No. 6: Prince Harry

The world’s second favorite son of Charles and Diana used to be higher up in the line of succession, but was bumped down to sixth once older brother William had his kids. Known officially as the Duke of Sussex, Harry married American actress Meghan Markle in 2018, and they’ve quickly become a power couple rivaled by few others. With Meghan set to give birth to the couple’s first child later this year, the world will surely be watching whether they ever become king and queen.

No. 7: Prince Andrew

Andrew is the third child of Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Philip. He’s best known for his high-profile marriage (and subsequent divorce) from Sarah Ferguson, aka Fergie (no, not the singer from the Black Eyed Peas). Despite divorcing in 1996, the pair reportedly still live together, proving that even royals sometimes need a roommate.

No. 8: Princess Beatrice

The elder daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson lives a much more low-profile life than the rest of her famous family. After getting a degree in history, she pursued a career in finance and reportedly lives in New York — a wise choice of a backup plan in case the whole princess thing doesn’t pan out.

No. 9: Princess Eugenie

Eugenie is the younger of Andrew and Sarah’s kids and reportedly works in the art world. 2018 was a big wedding year for the royals, and Eugenie closed it out with her marriage to Jack Brooksbank, a brand ambassador for George Clooney’s tequila brand, Casamigos. With a husband in such a festive job, we’re sure the party will go on for these two for years to come.
