Wendy's employee writes 'Chubby' as customer's name and, to the man's embarrassment, it's read out loud with his order
No hamburger is worth the humiliation one man suffered at a North Carolina Wendy‘s when he was picking up sandwiches for himself and his fiancée.
Jimmy Shue entered a Wendy’s in Gastonia, N.C., on Oct. 3, when an employee taking his order asked for his name. Instead of writing “Jimmy,” the employee wrote “Chubby” on the receipt, according to local news station WFMY News.
“The girl asked me my name at the register, so I gave her my name clear as day, ‘Jimmy,’” Shue told the news outlet. “She said, ‘OK, thank you,’ handed me the ticket, and I didn’t pay no mind at first until looked down at it while I was waiting and saw it said ‘Chubby.’”
Although he was upset, Shue was willing to let it slide. But then another employee came to the counter to call his name and ticket.
“He was hesitant to even say ‘Chubby,’ but he did and I told him, ‘That’s not my name but that’s my order,’ and I grabbed the order and started to walk out because I was mad,” Shue said. “Everybody started laughing in the restaurant, and I got really embarrassed.”
Shue attempted to complain to Wendy’s, but the restaurant he visited is a locally owned franchise. According to WFMY, Shue was told the situation had been “dealt with,” but was not given any specifics as to what that meant.
In September, an Alabama burger joint employee wrote “crazy b****” on a receipt after a woman ordered a burger with no cheese. It raises the question — why are these employees so unkind?
