Check out these Westchester, Rockland restaurants for National Pizza Day, Super Bowl pies
National Pizza Day is Feb. 9 and another national treasure — Super Bowl LVIII — is Feb. 11, so why not celebrate both with a football shaped pizza?
Surprisingly — or not — pizza is the top Super Bowl food, outpacing chicken wings and guacamole.
According to JeffBet, which analyzed 75 popular Super Bowl party foods using more than 4,000 search combinations, pizza ranks No. 1— followed by chili, guacamole, deviled eggs, chicken wings and jambalaya (Mardi Gras, after all, is soon after, on Feb. 13).
But back to pizza.
Why not elevate yours with an homage to the game? Ask and you shall receive: Westchester and Rockland pizzerias are happy to create a football-shaped pie, as long as you order in advance. You can even get one supersized (as in gigantic) at Pizza Barn in Yonkers. Or opt for a football-shaped calzone at Russo's in Pearl River (they also do football pizzas).
Many of these same pizzerias, FYI, also do heart-shaped pizzas for Valentine's Day, which tend to be more popular.
Still, for those who love pizza, any shape — and any topping — works, though. According to PRHub, pepperoni is the most popular pizza topping. One last fun fact? Super Bowl Sunday historically has the highest pizza sales of the year.
