Breaking: All the Globes Winners Were in Shock and Awe

How does it feel to win a Golden Globe? Shock and awe seemed to be the common sentiments expressed by the stars in the pressroom at tonight’s ceremony. “I really am so shocked right now,” Kate Winslet told reporters while holding her golden statuette for Best Support Actress for the Steve Jobs biopic. “I keep thinking this is maybe not happening. I honestly, truthfully, did not expect this at all.”
Jon Hamm was similarly surprised. “I was not expecting to win. Really. Ever. It’s incredible to be included with the people on this list,” he said, award in hand. “I watched every second of Mr. Robot. I thought it was excellent.” How would he celebrate? “I’ll probably go to the Valley and just, like, hang out,” he teased. “I might want to go bowling or… if anyone has a ping pong table? No, I don’t know. It’s such a mad house here.”
As per usual, Jennifer Lawrence took a comedic approach to answering reporters’ queries, but first fielded questions about beating her bestie Amy Schumer. “She’s going to be fine,” she said. “She’s just funny and hilarious. I really expected Amy to win. This was very truly surprising to me. I was just really surprised.” As for why the duo didn’t wind up wearing matching Dior gowns, Lawrence said, “I blew it by talking about it because then, if we did it, it would be expected. I just wore my own thing, but I hope you were satisfied by my selection. Seems like you weren’t…. Next question!”
The Martian’s Matt Damon was in an equally jovial mood while joking about where he planned to put his award. “Ricky Gervais has some good ideas I thought,” he said referring the host’s raunchy opening bit. “I’m actually flying out to Las Vegas because I’m shooting tomorrow morning for the new Jason Borne movie, so I’m handing it to my wife and she’ll take it home.”
Meanwhile, Sam Smith discussed winning for his song “Writings on the Wall” as featured in Spectre. “Getting to do a Bond theme was a dream come true from the start. It’s been part of my childhood for as long as I can remember,” he said, before discussing his follow-up album. “[It’s] no pressure. No pressure at all. Each album is my baby. It’s not going to be repeated. I need to find something else to talk about. I’ve been in the studio the last few weeks actually.” As for a possible Oscar nomination—which will be announced this week—he said, “I haven’t really thought about that to be honest. I want to think about it, but I’m trying not to think about it. It would be pretty sick, wouldn’t it?”
“Are you crying?” Taraji P. Henson asked her publicist while making her way backstage. Still reeling from her win, she told a photographer, “You can take as many pictures as you want! I’m bringing this home for the whole Empire team!” She later told reporters, “When they called my name, it was disarray. I was like, Cookies are here. I guess I should hand them out.” She gave them to Angela Bassett, Lady Gaga, and Leonardo DiCaprio. While holding up her award, she later added, “Here’s to all the haters. I’ll send you cookies, thanks.”
Lady Gaga discussed her experience on American Horror Story. “I would leave the set every day in tears,” she said, explaining that filming provided the perfect release. Next talk turned to music. “I am putting out an album this year. I won’t tell you when, but it is coming out this year.” As for a potential Oscar nom, Gaga sighed, “Shall we just take it a day at a time, dear? This is a lot.”
