The Tavern Food & Spirits is a new restaurant in a familiar location.
Located in the Hotel Millersburg at 35 W. Jackson St., Laurie Keaton is the new restaurant owner, opening after the hotel closed the former restaurant there nearly two years ago.
Keaton was an employee at the old restaurant in the Hotel Millersburg early in the 2000s and she hopes to use the knowledge and experience she gained during her time working in the industry to make the Tavern Food & Spirits successful.
Popular menu items are back - Pittsburgh Steak and Maurice salads
"I worked here for 17 years. I worked with (former hotel owners) Bill and Shirley (Robinson) and a little bit for Karen and Dave (Patterson)," Keaton said. "Being local, living here in town, I hear the locals talk, and I kind of have an idea of what they are wanting and what to bring back.
"We brought back many of the popular things that were on the old menu, like the Pittsburgh Steak Salad, the Maurice Salad, and some of the items that were on the old menu, we'll run as a special," she said. "We're basically going to feature burgers, steak and pasta. I thought we'd give it a shot and see what happens."
She also brought back some members of the staff who she worked with years ago.
Sandwiches on the menu include Philly Steak or chicken with onions, shitake mushrooms and Provolone cheese with house sauce, a variety of burgers, including the Millersburger, made with Trail bologna and swiss cheese.
Stop in for Wings Wednesday
There also is a veggie grilled cheese and a Reuben, along with appetizers and Wings Wednesday.
The dinner menu features steaks, chicken, salmon and fettuccine alfredo, along with the salads. A kids menu is available.
The tavern is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday-Saturday; it's open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Its are closed Tuesday.
"We heard a lot that there is nothing open on Sunday or Monday, so we are here both those days," she said.
Keaton suggests if you are looking for a good home-cooked meal at a fair price with friendly service, check out Tavern Food & Spirits. It offers outdoor seating and service in the courtyard as weather permits.
