What's Next for Danny Masterson and Bijou Phillips' Relationship After His Lengthy Prison Sentence
Bijou Phillips is standing by her man.
Despite the fact that her husband Danny Masterson was recently sentenced to 30-year-to-life in prison on two counts of rape, Phillips plans to remain committed to her vows.
A source close to the actress recently told People that she “has no plans to file for divorce." Despite having "a very difficult time since the conviction,” the source said that "she will be by his side for it all.”
The That '70s Show alum was found guilty on two out of three charges of rape this past May, leading to the announcement of his lengthy prison sentence earlier this month.
Phillips was present in the courtroom, where she is said to have looked "visibly upset" and could reportedly be heard crying as a result of his sentence. A courtroom sketch showed the guilty party blowing his wife a kiss before he was escorted out of the room.
Today, Phillips is said to be “surrounded by family and friends” and "in touch with his lawyer" as she plans to help appeal the conviction. "She tries to stay hopeful,” the source concluded.
The conviction stems from attacks that took place two decades ago, with Judge Olmedo assuring the actor at his sentencing, "Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago took away another person's choice and voice. Your actions 20 years ago today were criminal, and that's why you are here."
Many of his colleagues from the hit sitcom have faced immense backlash surrounding his crimes, including Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, after it was revealed that they'd written character references ahead of his sentencing. Meanwhile, fellow costar Topher Grace has remained mum on the situation, earning a slew of praise for his lack of support—though he has not condemned Masterson, either. His wife, however, issued a statement in support of victims of sexual assault.
