What’s Up With All the Weird Sleeves at the Golden Globes?
If you’re going to give folks the cold shoulder, you’d better come with some sleeves. Or at least that seemed to be the rule on the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet, where we noticed a handful of celebrities rocking gowns with exposed shoulders, coupled with dramatic sleeves.
Sofía Vergara’s glittering golden Zuhair Murad gown set a beautiful precedent for the evening.
And Goldie Hawn kept things simple in a black off-the shoulder gown with a matching sleeve.
Drew Barrymore brought us into cape territory with her gossamer Monique Lhuillier number.
But as for the other lovely ladies who took the red carpet, the whole naked-shoulder-with-sleeves look took a turn for the interesting.
The arms of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Vera Wang gown added a twist to what would otherwise be a simple look — providing a friendly reminder that less is sometimes more.
Hailee Steinfeld’s lavender Vera Wang confection also had superfluous sleeve action.
The bubble silhouette and a generous helping of sequins on Nicole Kidman’s Alexander McQueen gown’s sleeves had us thinking that the actress may have fared better had she ditched them altogether and opted for cool jewelry instead.
Connie Britton gave us a one-shoulder moment with a twist — instead of a sleeveless silhouette, Britton’s Edition by Georges Chakra had a short sleeve, which made the look stand out a bit more. The dress’s powder pink hue looked gorgeous against the actress’s skin.
