The day is finally here for the official release of the long-awaited fifth generation of the cult-classic PlayStation gaming console.
Back in June 2020, the sleek gaming device, along with some matching accessories, was unveiled to the public. While the price was still a mystery at the time of this announcement, it has since been confirmed that the PlayStation 5, which is available for purchase starting today, November 12, 2020, will start at a retail price of $399 for the digital version and $100 more for the standard console.
Most retailers have listed that both units will be made available for online purchase beginning at 12 p.m. EST/9 a.m. PST.
Shop: PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, $399
The main difference between the two models can be found in their gameplay capabilities: the standard version will include a disc drive while the digital edition will not.
The standard version of the PlayStation will come with the console, a DualSense controller, all the cables needed and a pre-loaded copy of Astro’s Playroom (a platform designer to teach new users about the features of the PlayStation 5’s gamepad).
Shop: PlayStation 5 Console, $499
Both versions of the PlayStation 5 will be available for purchase at the following retailers:
Best Buy (PS5, PS5 Digital)
Amazon (PS5, PS5 Digital)
Walmart (PS5, PS5 Digital)
Gamestop (PS5, PS5 Digital)
Target (PS5, PS5 Digital)
Sam’s Club (PS5)
For those who are seeking to simultaneously snag the works with their PlayStation 5 purchase, there are a few accessories that will be launched in conjunction with the consoles. They will include:
A Pulse 3D wireless headset that offers 3D audio support and dual noise-canceling microphones.
An HD camera featuring dual 1080-pixel lenses that give gamers the ability to broadcast themselves and their gameplay moments.
A media remote with a built-in microphone for easy navigation while using streaming services.
A DualSense charging station for charging up to two DualSense Wireless Controllers.
PlayStation has confirmed in a press release that purchases can only be made online this year. The console will not be available for in-store purchase on the launch date.
