There’s been a lot of chatter in 2024 about how fast food is getting more expensive — but you can’t do any better than free. This National Doughnut Day, June 7, America’s leading bakery chains — including Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme, and Shipley — want to help customers celebrate by offering the ultimate value meal: a free doughnut (or “donut”; National Doughnut Day recognizes both spellings).

Interestingly, while many of the “National [X] Day” holidays are the result of modern-day lobbying efforts, National Doughnut Day dates back to 1938, when the Salvation Army created the holiday in recognition of the “Donut Lassies” who served pastries to soldiers on the front lines during World War I. This Friday, June 7, many chains will be promoting National Doughnut Day deals, and if you play your cards right, you could score a whole lot of free food. Here’s where to go for the best giveaways.

Duck Donuts

Duck Donuts, the Pennsylvania-based chain with more than 100 locations nationwide, has a no-purchase-necessary deal for National Donut Day: In-store customers will receive a free cinnamon sugar donut just for walking through the door. “Think of it as our way of sprinkling happiness!” the chain wrote on Instagram.

Dunkin’

Customers can cash in at any Dunkin’ location nationwide this Friday by receiving a free classic donut of their choice with the purchase of any beverage. Depending on availability, there are a range of classic donuts to choose from: Cinnamon Sugar, Jelly Donuts, Blueberry, Creme-Filled, Vanilla Frosted, Coconut, and many more. This deal is only available on June 7, while supplies last.

Krispy Kreme

This Friday, head to your nearest Krispy Kreme location to receive any “favorite” doughnut for free. That’s completely free, by the way, with no purchase necessary (though who wouldn’t want to pair a doughnut with a nice cup of coffee?). This offer excludes limited-time-only doughnuts such as the Dolly Parton “Southern Sweets” collection, but includes a variety of classic and cake doughnuts. Select Krispy Kreme locations will also offer an Original Glazed dozen for the discount price of $2 when you buy any dozen in-store or via drive-thru at regular price.

Randy's Donuts

The donut shop synonymous with California is opening a brand-new location in Chula Vista on June 7, and since the timing lines up with National Donut Day, customers can arrive at the new shop from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. to score a free glazed donut. Best of all, the first 10 people to arrive will win free donuts for a whole year. Get ready to gas up your car and head for the West Coast.

Shipley Do-Nuts

Customers who visit this primarily Southern U.S. doughnut (or “do-nut”) chain on June 7 can receive one free Glazed Do-Nut with any purchase. Unlike some other chains’ National Doughnut Day promotions, customers can redeem this offer either in-store or online with code DONUTDAY24, while supplies last. Members of Shipley’s DO-HAPPY Rewards program can also place an order using the coupon code listed in the app.

Voodoo Doughnut

Voodoo Doughnut remained a famous shop solely in Portland, Oregon for years, but two decades into its run, it has begun to expand nationwide. This National Doughnut Day, it’s proudly living up to its slogan, “Good Things Come in Pink Boxes,” by releasing a limited-time-only Pink Raised Glazed Dozen. The box contains 13 doughnuts, each one bright pink as a nod to the chain’s iconic branding, and each dozen will cost $10.
