Where the World's Most Powerful Men Go for Plastic Surgery
Let’s get real: men are no less vain than women, they’re just more secretive. But times they are a-changin’ and more men are seeking out advanced solutions to help them look and feel better. These are the most sought-after spots around the world for men to get tweaked and poked in pursuit of next-level aesthetics.
Istanbul
There are over 300 hair transplant clinics in Istanbul alone, which sees male patients jetting in from all over the world seeking a solution to their thinning locks (around 5,000 each month to be exact). Thanks to Turkey’s rise as a leader in hair restoration surgery, you’ll see post-surgical wraps everywhere from the Grand Bazaar to the Four Seasons.
Seoul
The ritzy but tiny district of Gangnam has over 500 plastic surgery clinics and drives South Korea’s $5 billion dollar plastic surgery industry. It’s estimated that men make up 20% of Korean surgical patients, though that number is climbing thanks to the rising popularity of non-invasive treatments. Most popular? Nose jobs and eyelid surgeries among young and older men alike.
Silicon Valley
Men underwent 1.1 million non-invasive cosmetic procedures in 2018 and a third of them were performed on the west coast. Given the amount of technology industry-focused age discrimination lawsuits in recent years, Silicon Valley has become hotbeds of male Botox. San Francisco-based plastic surgeon David Seiber, MD has seen a sharp increase in male patients who work in the tech field. “They all come in asking to look younger,” he says, and specifically ask for Botox.
Utah
According to the International Spa Association, men made up 49% of all spa-goers in the United States in 2018. Destination spas like Amangiri in Canyon Point, Utah have become the new status vacation spots thanks to celebrities like Kanye West, who tweeted that we need to “Amangiri the world.” Most popular among male Amangiri guests: the Desert Wind Journey, which combines hiking, yoga, Thai massage, and an immersive sound bath.
Texas
Austin, Texas-based plastic surgeon Robert Caridi, MD specializes in male gynecomastia surgery, a procedure that reduces breast tissue in men. Nearly 25,000 of these procedures were performed in 2018 in the US alone, making this the fourth most popular plastic surgery procedure among men. Caridi has performed over 3,000 gynecomastia surgeries in his career and regularly sees patients from all over the world who come to Austin specifically to see him.
