White couple with dreadlocks proudly celebrate '2 years of Cultural Appropriating'

Jason Sampson and Veronica Rose are two popular YouTube bloggers who, combined, have more than 200,000 subscribers. In a recent tweet, the couple proudly celebrated “2 years of Cultural Appropriating.” The tweet resulted in several responses from people calling them “racist” and “insensitive” for posting such a caption.

Followers tried to make the couple see why their hairstyle and caption are inappropriate.

In a video response to the controversy, Veronica Rose said, “I’m not racist,” claiming that “all hairstyles should be available to everyone [regardless of] their skin color.” However, when she addressed the argument that black people are discriminated against for having dreadlocks, she blatantly dismissed it. “It’s not true,” she said. “Culture doesn’t even exist.”

In Sampson’s response, he said, “it’s such an absurd thing to be enraged about.” In the almost 12-minute video he failed to apologize and dismissed his followers’ allegations. “I make fun of it,” he said about the accusations of racism and cultural appropriation.

Other fans have defended the couple.

This isn’t the first time Sampson has been surrounded by controversy. In 2015 he was accused of sexually assaulting one of his fans. She was 15 years old and he was 20 at the time.

Yahoo Lifestyle reached out to Rose and Sampson, but they did not return a request to comment.
