Why Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor Reconciled After 2017 Split
The two comedy stars got back together after their initial split.
Many fans were devastated when they heard the news in 2017 that comedy stars–not to mention Hollywood power couple–Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor were separating.
But now, six years later, the two are back together and very happy, and Taylor's opening up about how the reconciliation happened on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.
She began the story by backtracking to when she and Stiller first got together, saying, "We got married very quickly after meeting each other. We knew each other six months, got engaged, married within the year and had [daughter] Ella that next year."
The couple got married in 2000, and they went on to have another child, as well–a son named Quinlin.
Speaking about what led to the separation, Taylor said, "I think Ben and I both started to grow in different directions. And when we made the decision to separate, it was not something we wanted to talk publicly about or took lightly."
But their time spent apart helped them grow as people before coming together again during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taylor said, "During that time apart, we got to know who we are...I feel like we needed some time to figure that out." But she stated that she and Stiller continued to co-parent well, adding, "We always stayed a family unit and always continued to do things together."
When the pandemic came around, the entire family decided to stay together, leading Taylor and Stiller to get to know each other once again.
She described the experience to host Drew Barrymore, who was enthralled with Taylor's story: "When the pandemic hit and we all had to figure out where we were going to hunker down, we all ended up in our house together. We found this way back. We had so much time to talk. There were no other distractions."
"I feel like when you've lived a lifetime with someone like we have—and we learned as we were going along—there's a freedom in that. There is a freedom in the comfort of this relationship and the commitment," she concluded.
