Why Britney Spears' Estranged Husband Is Coming to Her Defense
They may no longer be together, but Britney Spears always has estranged husband Sam Asghari in her corner.
Asghari chimed in to defend the pop star after Donald Trump Jr., the son of former president Donald Trump, made a joke on his Instagram page at her expense.
The businessman caught some heat after sharing two side-by-side images comparing Spears at various points in her life.
The first was a throwback photo that captured Spears at the height or her career, donning a denim skirt and cropped shirt. It was labeled “America Under Trump.”
The second shot was taken from her recent viral video dancing with knives and featured the label “America Under Biden.”
The meme was an attempt at a political joke—but one that Asghari did not find humorous in the slightest.
“It’s not okay to be a bully," Asghari bluntly wrote on his Instagram Story, tagging the politician in the process.
While many left laughing emojis in the comments, others seemed to agree with Asghari, as one noted, “That is mean. Brittany [sic] had been so taken advantage of.”
Another added, “Don, this was a tad inappropriate. I love your dad and think he is the absolute best man to save this country, but not at the expense of someone who is clearly having some emotional health issues. You are better than this.”
Others joined in stating, “Why bring Brittany [sic] into this Donald. C’mon. You can do better. This poor girl is suffering. Memes are weak using other people pain. Sad” and “Not funny what if that was your daughter.”
Spears’ recent knife-dancing video prompted a wellness check from authorities at her home, even after she assured the public that she was using “fake knives that my team rented from Hand Prop shop in LA” and clarified that she was inspired by Shakira’s VMAs performance.
The 41-year-old later took to Instagram to express her disappointment at the visit from the cops, calling it “unacceptable” and “unwarranted,” and adding, “I’ve been bullied in my home for so long now…ITS ENOUGH!”
She also reflected on her recent divorce from Asghari in a lengthy Instagram post, noting, in part, “I'm taking it one day at a time and learning to breathe.”
Asghari and Spears announced their divorce in August after six years together and one year of marriage.
At the time, the 29-year-old wrote, "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always."
The duo may not be on speaking terms, but it seems that he’s staying committed to that promise.
