Why Did DAYS Tear The Heart Out Of Paulina’s Story?
Poor Paulina just couldn’t catch a break on Days of our Lives. First, her husband disappeared. Then Abe reappeared, but he didn’t remember being married to her. Then Paulina got cancer. Then, she needed a heart transplant. That last one was a real emergency. She’d die within days if she didn’t have one! However, Paulina got her miracle, and on the Thursday, March 21 episode, she got to go home.
Dues Ex Lexi-Na
Backing up, just as Paulina (Jackée Harry) was flat-lining, Abe’s first wife, Lexi (Renee Jones) beamed, all heaven-like, into Paulina’s hospital room. She not only gave Abe (James Reynolds) his memories back, but also cured Paulina.
“It’s a miracle,” doctors Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) chirped, completely chill about what had just happened and with no absolutely no curiosity about how they might make the same happen for their other patients. Paulina is, obviously, the only one who deserves such beautiful care.
Point and Shoot
We, the viewers, however, still have questions. Chief among them…um…DAYS…um…what was the point of this story? Paulina got sick, and then Paulina got well. Where was the drama? Where was the countdown, the question about who would need to die so that Paulina might live? Tripp (Lucas Adams) and Wendy’s (Victoria Grace) lives were in danger at the same time. Harris (Steve Burton) had just been shot. Clyde (James Read) was on the run.
Heck, if the show didn’t want to do anything meaningful, there was always Goldman (Christy St. John). She practically had Dead Meat written on her forehead. Where was the scene where Abe begged Kayla and Sarah to pull the plug on Goldman so Paulina could get her heart, while Ava (Tamara Braun) insisted they keep her alive in the hope that she might tell them where Tripp and Wendy were?
Then again, who needs drama when you can have a miracle?
