Why Dolly Parton Rejected Kate Middleton's Tea Invitation
Dolly Parton apparently doesn't make exceptions for anyone, not even a princess.
The country music queen recently revealed that she turned down a tea invitation from Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, during her recent trip to the British Isles.
Parton, who is royalty herself when it comes to the music industry, opened up about the offer from the Princess with BBC Radio 2, noting that she "felt so bad" for having to decline Middleton's request.
"This time, lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate," the 77-year-old icon stated. "I couldn’t even go!"
The "9 to 5" songstress then jokingly told the outlet, "she wasn't going to promote my rock album so I had to say no."
"But I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me to tea," Parton said of the royal, 41, "And one of these days I’m going to get to do that—that would be great."
As many fans of the "Jolene" singer already know, Parton is currently gearing up for the release of her debut rock album, which she first teased after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2022.
The new album, aptly titled Rockstar, is set to drop later this year and will feature collaborations with Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Brandi Carlile, Elton John, Pink and plenty more notable names.
So far, Parton has already released a handful of songs off the album, including her versions of "We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You" and "Let It Be," featuring Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
As for the rest of the album, Rockstar officially releases on November 17, and is available for pre-order now.
