Why Donna Kelce Is Taking a More Laid-Back Approach This Super Bowl
Donna Kelce attends Thursday Night Football Presents The World Premiere of "Kelce" on Sept. 8, 2023, in Philadelphia, Penn.
Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce's mother, Donna Kelce, is approaching Super Bowl LVIII in a much more laid-back manner than last year—and it isn't difficult to figure out why.
In 2023, her sons' NFL teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles faced off for the big game. The 2024 Super Bowl, however, features a matchup between the Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
Ahead of the Feb. 11 game, Kelce opened up about her mindset. "This year I'm going to take a step back to enjoy it," Mama Kelce told People. "I get to enjoy it this time."
On Feb. 12, 2023, Donna became the first mother to have two sons playing against each other in a Super Bowl—with Travis catching passes as a tight end from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Jason hiking the football to Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Mama Kelce knew it would be tough no matter how the game played out. Ultimately, the Chiefs prevailed over the Eagles 38-35.
Donna opened up about how she would approach the once-in-a-lifetime experience during with the Today show ahead of the 2023 Super Bowl. When asked if she was rooting for any particular team, she replied, "Absolutely, the offense," to which co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Delano Melvin laughed. "Every time somebody has the ball."
"Obviously, there's going to be somebody that goes home heartbroken," Mama Kelce continued. "They won't have the bragging rights at the Thanksgiving table."
Thankfully, this time around, Donna can throw her full support behind Travis and his Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 11!
