Why Easter Will Be Extra Special for the Royal Family This Year
Being the Queen of England comes with more than a few perks, one of which is getting to celebrate your birthday twice a year. Queen Elizabeth was born on April 21, but the public marking of her birthday, known as Trooping the Colour, takes place during the summer, when the British weather's more appropriate for a parade.
Normally, the Queen spends the actual day of her birth privately, but this year, fans of the royal family will have a window into her special day.
That's because Elizabeth II's 93rd birthday coincides with Easter this year. Every year on Easter Sunday, the Queen joins the rest of her family for services at Windsor Castle. While there, the British monarch will receive a bouquet of flowers from local children, who also attended the church service.
The Queen's birthday will also be marked by gun salutes in central London. Per the royal family's website, there will be "a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London."
In addition to the upcoming hybrid celebration of both Easter and the Queen's birthday, the royal family has much to look forward to this April.
Notably, at the end of the month, the Duchess of Sussex will be approaching her reported due date, and Prince Louis's first birthday is on the 23rd. Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will celebrate their wedding anniversary on April 29.
In addition to these joyous milestones, Prince William will take a poignant trip to New Zealand in late April, where he will pay tribute to those victims of the Christchurch attacks on behalf of his grandmother.
