Why Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie Are Absent from ‘Today’
For frequent viewers of the Today show, Monday, Aug. 28's episode was missing a couple of key figures: Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.
The popular anchors were absent from the broadcast, after noticeably being MIA from Friday's show, too. Thankfully, fellow Today stars Craig Melvin and Kristen Welker took the place of Kotb and Guthrie in their absence on Monday morning. (For those who missed it, on Friday, Sheinelle Jones was paired with Melvin instead of Kotb and Guthrie.)
As for the reason for their absence? Last week, Kotb revealed that Guthrie was away from the show enjoying a vacation, which is likely why she is still missing from Today this week. It is unclear when she will return to the NBC staple. She has not posted on Instagram for a week, with her last post being a photo of herself and Al Roker in honor of his 69th birthday.
However, Kotb's reason for being away from Today has not been made public. It is currently unknown whether or not she will be on Tuesday's show, and if not, how long she will be away from her co-anchor position.
The 59-year-old's social media activity did shed a bit of light on her current plans, as she posted on Instagram on Aug. 27. In the new upload, the TV personality celebrated a family friend's birthday. Thus, it seems everything is going well on her end.
The mother of two also took a break at the start of August, just in time for her birthday on Aug. 9. But Kotb's co-host Jenna Bush Hager made sure to celebrate Kotb's big day with an early surprise gift.
Around the same time, Guthrie was also enjoying time away from Today, with the 51-year-old taking her daughter Vale to see Taylor Swift in concert.
