Why It’s Awesome Coco Rocha Is Spilling the Beans on the “No Makeup” Look

While we love a good celebrity no-makeup selfie for the message it sends about embracing your natural beauty, we don’t love the fact that most of them are really just pulling the old “no makeup, makeup” trick. With so many stars posting their no-makeup selfies, it can be hard to distinguish which ones are the real deal and which one’s aren’t. Well, one celebrity is spilling the beans on all those false claims of wearing no makeup in photos.

Supermodel Coco Rocha recently took to Twitter to show fans that her “no-makeup” look actually does include the use of makeup. She also insinuates that she’s not the only one to do it, saying, “When that ‘no makeup’ ‘effortless’ look took about 2 hours and 5 people (including a makeup artist!) to set up..” Check out the post below:

Rocha isn’t the only star to call out members of Hollywood for their deceitful selfie social media claims. Daisy Ridley also took to Instagram to post a “I woke up like this” selfie with the hashtags #nomakeup and #nofilter, discrediting her claim with the caption: “3 of these statements aren’t true…Social media is great but also a bit scary cause what people post is the most filtered, most carefully chosen and cleverly edited moments of their lives. And self esteem is a huge issue for people around the world. My skin isn’t great so I don’t post no makeup selfies, much as I’d like to,” demonstrating that most of these images not only include makeup, but also use a lot of filters and editing as well.

Other stars, like Demi Lovato (who openly speaks out about confidence and body positivity), do actually post true bare-faced selfies, while others, like the Kardashian’s, for example, commonly post selfies in which they claim to be makeup-free but actually have a little help from a few products. Often it’s clear that these images include eyelash extensions, good lighting, and some obvious blemish blurring.

While the no-makeup trend started as a wonderful movement to promote self-confidence, it loses all meaning if the images posted aren’t truly what they claim to be.
