Why Jenna Bush Hager Doesn't Keep a Scale in Her Home
Jenna Bush Hager doesn't keep a scale in her home. In fact, her kids don't even know what one is!
The television personality opened up about the the choice on Monday, June 12's episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna, where she shared that, while staying at a friend's home recently, her oldest daughter, Mila, came across the contraption in the bathroom and was left scratching her head,
"I had this really weird thing this weekend," she told Kotb. "We were staying at a little cottage at a friend's for a week, so my kids can go to their camp with their old pals, and there was a scale. I was in the bathroom and Mila was like, 'What is that?' Because I don't own a scale."
Mila was intrigued after her mom explained what the scale was, and the 10-year-old started weighing everything—including her cat, Holly.
Bush Hager went on to detail why there isn't a scale in the family's home, noting, "I don't want to be beholden to some number on a machine. That makes me feel bad."
The Today co-anchor has previously opened up about her struggle with body image over the years. When Ariana Grande addressed fans' concerns about her appearance back in April, it led Bush Hager to share her own history
"It's so interesting because people really do hit you right where it hurts," she told Kotb at the time. "I had a boyfriend in 7th grade who broke up with me after we went swimming together, after he saw me in a bathing suit."
Even today, she says she'll "walk in a pool and have a moment" as a result—especially because some people still feel the need to comment on the way she looks on the Today Show.
