Why Justin and Hailey Bieber Skipped the 2022 MTV VMAs
Justin and Hailey Bieber chose not to spend their Sunday night in Newark, New Jersey at the MTV VMAs despite Justin having several nominations.
Justin is up for Song of the Year (with the Kid LAROI for “Stay”), Best Collaboration (with the Kid LAROI for “Stay”), Best Metaverse Performance, and Best Visual Effects (with the Kid LAROI for “Stay”). Given the awards are in more minor categories or the most competitive category (Song of the Year), the Biebers' choice to skip the ceremony is understandable.
Hailey spoke to Harper's Bazaar for its September issue about her street style and how the paparazzi attention she gets has led her to have high standards for her fashion. “I get photographed so much that I feel like sometimes I put pressure on myself,” she said, adding it is in part due to her perfectionism. “Even if I’m just throwing on jeans and a T-shirt, I want it to be a dope pair of jeans and a great T-shirt!”
She also spoke about her marriage to Justin four years in and what their relationship is like now. “He’s still the person that I wanna be rushing back to,” she said. “I might fly somewhere and go do a job, but I can’t wait to come back and hang out. And I feel like that’s because of the effort that’s been put in on both sides. At the end of the day, like, he’s my best friend, but it still does take a lot of work to make it work. And then I know eventually, when kids come in the picture, that’s going to be a whole other season of navigating how to make that work.”
