Why Justin and Hailey Bieber Skipped the 2020 Billboard Music Awards
Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber aren't about to make their big award show red carpet debut during the coronavirus pandemic. The couple opted not to attend the Billboard Music Awards tonight in person, at least. Justin is up for several awards: Top Radio Song (for his collaboration with Ed Sheeran, "I Don’t Care"), Top Collaboration (fan-voted for "I Don't Care"), Top Country Song (for his collaboration with Dan + Shay, "10,000 Hours"), and Top R&B Album (for Changes).
None of the categories were announced during the broadcast, and only winners for the categories that were announced attended to accept their awards.
Justin will actually be on SNL this weekend, meaning the Biebs is likely gearing up to be in New York City, rehearsing ahead of his performance. But he was last seen in California earlier today. The Billboard Music Awards are being conducted in Los Angeles—albeit with no audience. COVID is very much still a thing, after all.
Beyond his nominations, Justin has no pressing obligation to attend in person. He has not been announced as a performer or presenter.
Justin is on the cusp of releasing new music though. His new song "Lonely" with producer Benny Blanco and actor Jacob Tremblay comes out on Friday.
Justin recently celebrated his one-year anniversary of his South Carolina wedding to Hailey. The couple legally wed one year earlier in a New York City courthouse.
He wrote to Hailey, "Hailey Bieber. I am so lucky to be YOUR husband! You teach me so much everyday and make me such a better man! I am committed for the rest of our lives to empower you to be the woman God has called you to be! My heart is to enable you to achieve all of your wildest dreams! I promise to always put you first, to lead with patience and kindness!! Happy anniversary my beautiful sweet girl."
