Why Kanye West Skipped the 2022 Grammys
Despite having several major nominations tonight, Kanye West opted not to attend this evening's Grammy Awards in Las Vegas. The move comes after the show disinvited him from performing amid his harassment of his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her new boyfriend Pete Davidson earlier this month.
His rep confirmed to Variety that West was “barred from performing at the Grammy Awards due to his ‘concerning online behavior.’” That behavior included sharing private text messages between him and Kardashian on his public Instagram, releasing a claymation music video where a man resembling Davidson was buried alive, and telling his fans not to harm “Skete,” adding that he would “handle the situation myself.” The posts have since been deleted.
On Friday, Page Six reported that West told Kardashian that he would stop harassing her and Davidson and would go get help.
A source close to the Kardashians told the outlet, “For the sake of the kids, Kanye has told Kim he’s not making any public appearances or inflammatory social media statements, and he will go away somewhere to get better.” The source specified it wasn't clear whether West would go to a treatment facility and that he was in Los Angeles to be with his four kids with Kardashian.
A rep for West told Page Six, “At this time, Ye is committed to a healthy co-parenting relationship with Kim and is and focused on raising their beautiful children.”
West's Donda is up for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album at tonight's ceremony. Before the broadcast, he already won awards for Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Hurricane”) and Best Rap Song (“Jail”).
