Why Was Killer Mike Arrested at the Grammys? He Was Detained After Winning 3 Awards

After videos of him being detained in handcuffs moments before the Grammys Award ceremony, many music fans might be wondering why Killer Mike was arrested. Earlier in the day, the Atlanta rapper and one half of Run The Jewels won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” and also won Best Rap Album for Michael.

In an interview with GQ in December 2023, Killer Mike was proud to release his album. “I made the best hip-hop album this year. Abso-fucking-lutely. And I’m one half of one of the best rap groups ever. I wanted to prove, like Serena Williams, I’m good in doubles or singles. I came for the fucking trophy. You’re goddamn right I did.”

He continued when he asked if he’ll feel like that in the future, “I felt that way in January of last year. I felt that way in June when it dropped. And I’ll feel that way January 1 of next year. And win, lose, or draw, I’ll feel that way the day after the Grammys, because I did. Man, listen, I love this shit. Sometimes hip-hop artists can take themselves so seriously as being artists. They want everybody else to take them seriously: I’m an artist. You have to see me as an artist. I do see you as an artist. They don’t respect your art. They see you as an artist—they just see you as low-level. They see you as drawing on the sidewalk outside the train station. They don’t understand.”

Why was Killer Mike arrested?

Why was Killer Mike arrested? According to Rolling Stone writer Tomás Mier, the LAPD arrested Killer Mike after a physical altercation and the investigation is ongoing.

The Hollywood Reporter staff writer Chris Gardner posted a video of the “RUN” rapper handcuffed by officials at the CRYPTO.com Arena in Los Angeles, Caliornia. “An official tells someone on his team that it’s possible he may be released later tonight from the arena. Unclear if he’s being booked here and what he’s charged with. Trying to find out,” Gardner tweeted.

In a follow up tweet, Gardner said that the arrest wasn’t too serious. “Just spoke to an official who tells me it’s a misdemeanor and has nothing to do with anything that happened today here inside the arena. Likely he will be released once it’s sorted. ‘It’s a big nothing,’ source says.”

No.” Someone on his team gave me a quick declined comment when asked what is going on and why he’s being detained.

Gardner later added to the thread, “Harvey Mason Jr is now headed backstage after spending time here talking to security and Killer Mike’s team. The scene by security has calmed but Mike is still detained back there.”
